I am not Stupid but I am Crazy

It is like wasting my time in writing about nonsense articles and my AU experiences. Some might say that " Hi.. Ellay, what r u doing with all these? It's better to do something. Ah.. I really don't have much to say with all these friends.
I know I have to do something more instead of doing this and spending lots of time. But they don't know that I have an idea to share with all my friends and to remember my AU student life. Sincerely speaking, I am not stupid to do this but I am really crazy to write about all these. Ha..ha..
Hope you might get something from here or just let it be friend....

What does the lady say in AU library?

I just back from AU library. After watching world cup untill this morning, I take a rest in my room untill 9:30 am and get up. I plan to do something this afternoon, so I clean my room, take a bath and ready to go for lunch and go to AU library.
Then I call my friend and go out to fulfill our physical needs. I am quite hungry coz I didn't have a good dinner last night. After my class last night, I went to have dinner to the place before i used to have. But unfortunately, there was empty rice so i just had noodle for my dinner. Actually noodle is quite popular for dinner in Thailand.
I order fried rice with pork as the same with my friend and it is one of my favorite Thai food as well. There is so crowed in the small restaurant as the time for lunch for every students, we have to wait untill we empty two cups of water (actually we drink slowly). After we enjoy lunch, we go to AU library to borrow a book.
When I get into the library, i try to find out the book and approach to counter to sign up my name. Then the lady there speak to me in Thai first coz most of my friend say that I am look like Thai. I replied in English and you know what she says: " This is inside already, you can not borrow, you can read here" then I ask again, "What do u mean inside already? " Coz all the books are inside the library. I really don't understand her sentence.
Fortunately, I meet one of my friends just near the counter and he says that " If there is only one book (or) new book, you can't borrow, but you can copy in this library" Ah... then i understand now what is "inside already."
That's one of my experience in Au life and you might have the same problem like me if you are in AU library.

Beyond the culture in Au International Students life!

"You should not touch her hair or any part of the Body"
"Why? It is Ok, they are just kids and some are friends."
"But you have to be careful sometimes, especial if you touch to the girls like the age of 15-19 or more than that. And you know some cultures are very strict, even you are not allowed to see their face that's why they cover it."

It was one of late midnight in Ranong after we had a great occasion with some special guest. The entire guest had gone back and we were just 3, and talking about nothing special. "Let me try another bottle" I said and got up and took one more beer from the fridge. It is my favorite to drink beer Chang in Thailand whenever I have a chance to drink.

Our nonsense discussion was going on and on just outside the kitchen until the rain was coming. "But I think it is fine to touch her hair if we are close friend. Coz we understand each other as friend", I said. Then, my friend said, "Ok, but what I mean is that you have to respect their culture, for some culture it might be fine, but for some it is quite strict"

"Ah, it doesn't mean that I don't respect their culture but when we become friend, it is understood. No matter what the culture is." "You are right Ellay" said by a fat guy who was standing beside me with a small whisky glass and continue saying this: "When we become friends or lover, friendship doesn't care culture. You can enjoy as you accept each other. If you care too much about the culture in every circumstance, it is sure that very difficult to make friends. The main thing is you have to understand each other."

My friend who cares too much about culture said again: "In some culture, if you touch before married, it against their culture and you have to marry by all means:" May be some places.

"But it is sure that LOVE and FRIENDSHIP don't care too much on culture, because they are BEYOND the culture"

Got headache!

After watching world cup for the whole night, I really got headache for not sleeping well. I used to enjoy with some of my friends at their appartment to watch world cup and play TV game during break time. I lost almost every time in playing Tv game. Of course, sometime I won at the last match and, that make me so happy. Coz no one wants to lose at the last state and I can become a winner at the last state. Ha...ha..
But the problem is "got headache!" I couldn't study well and don't want to go around with my friends. I need to take a rest more and sleep almost the whole day. I know it is not good coz it makes me to be lazy more and more. I have afternoon class yesterday and so sleepy in the class room. It was about financial management and I don't have idea at all. There is one assignment and I don't know how to do that. Sure, I need to ask somebody's help.
Today is sunday and I have to go to the church. There is a small chapel in the campus and we have Mass at 10 am every sunday. It is in English and there is Thai program too at 8:30 am. It is the place where most of Catholic University students meet together and have some conversation after the Mass.
I am abit lazy to get up this morning, but I should. So I get up at 9:30 am and take a bath, then go to the church. I am late for the Mass but I try to concentrate in prayer time and pray for my family, friends and for all my benefactors.
But still got headache untill now.

9 years old Marko doesn't like Bangkok

"Hello, Sawadi Khrap," I tried to approach him to greet and make friend. He really looks like a Thai boy, so it was the reason that I started to greet him in Thai. Then I continue to say something more in Thai and I come to know after beginning my conversation that he is not a Thai.

"I don't like the city" said by 9 years old Marko who is mix blood of Japanese and France when I met him at Koh Payam Island near Ranong, southern part of Thailand. It was a quiet afternoon in that Island and we met after we arrived to Mr.Goa Bangalore. A young boy Marko was with his Mom near to my little Bangalore and he was looking around to the places from his Bangalore. His Mom was preparing to go to the nearest beach that closes to our Bangalore. Then I asked him a few minutes later "Why you don't like the city like Bangkok?" and he answered that "My Mom said there are many cars, many factories and very crowed, so it is not good for my health, and air pollution is very bad" "I like the nature and it is good for my health" Oh it was a lovely Marko that he could remember what his Mom told him.

"My father will come after 2 days" he said. He could speak English well so we can have more conversation and enjoyed going around the beach in the late afternoon of that day. I asked him "Have you been here before?" "Yes, last year and I have some friends here" he said. There are some kids like Marko who stay there with their parents and even some foreigners kids are there and they could speak English too. But Marko didn't have a chance to meet them on that day. So he could spend more time and shared about his life in Thailand, Japan and France.

Marko and his Mom were planning to stay more days and I was just 2 days but one night with my Pilipino friend. I said good bye to little Marko on the next day afternoon and back to Ranong to spend more times there.

Au Might gets less international Students in the near future!

So to say that Au is claiming as the first international university in Thailand and it got a big number of international students including exchange program students for the past years.

The students also accept that Au is one of the famous Universities in Asia and the most famous University in Thailand. It comes out with lots of new dreams and tries to modernize in Technologies teaching methods, advertising old and new program as well, and expanding new buildings and renovating old constructions nowadays.

Au has main campus in Hua Mark and newly branch in Bang Na for bachelor program students. Bang Na has more attractive buildings and a huge compound for all learning environments and play grounds. Some people says that after Bang Na branch campus has finished all its buildings, all undergraduate programs from Hua Mark will move to Bang Na Au branch.

As one of graduate students, I don't have much time to visit Bang Na branch since all graduate programs are provided in Hua Mark campus and I can't say how many percentage of international students are attending in Bang Na branch. But might not be much.

I still remember my Business Research class that I recently finished last March and I was the only foreigner in our class. And I could see there are a few numbers of international students in our other classes that I took in last semester. If I say the exact number, there are 4 students in ITE and 5 students in marketing class as international students.

You will also hear that Au is international university and get a big number of international students. But in reality, you can guess the situation after reading this. Why only that number?

Not strange, most of the students wanna ask the questions in their own language, i.e., Thai because they are Thai and most of the teachers also prefer to answer the questions in Thai. Coz most of the teachers are also Thai. How about for the international students? Sometimes, they will also say that " Thai version first and English later" What you wanna say about international classes?

I heard one of the students say that "Before I study in AU, my English was good, but now all my English become broken English" You know why? You can't use the whole grammar sentences or past tense. Some students will say " No have, Same Same." Sometime, it is better to speak word by word.

I don't mean all the faculties, but I think Au is trying to localize the University by hiring more numbers of local teachers and most of the students will prefer more to speak out in their own language.

I love to read the poem!

By Emily T. Peek

Youth, a winding road, twisting and turning.........Never truly knowing what's up ahead.....Feelings of constant pressure and yearning........On many days you would rather be dead........Which road will you take, the up or the down?.........So many decisions, how will you choose?.........Your day depends on a smile or a frown.......Its all a game, will you win or lose?............Just hoping you can make it through the day.......There is no point looking around the curve.......Each turn comes in an unexpected way......

Once in Ranong (southern part of Thailand)

Numbers of NGOs, Missionaries and Volunteers are working for Burmese refugees, legal and illegal workers in all over the world, especially border area of Thai and Myanmar (Burma). Most of Burmese refugees are living in Southern and Northern part of Thailand border line and it is one of my interests to travel around border area to see and know how our people are living there.

It is my first summer holiday in Thailand and a bit nervous. Sincerely speaking, I just heard that lots of our people are living in the border area as refugee and suffering from all sorts of human life. So I am so eager to roam around all these border area. But my friend asks me “What can you do, except just roaming around?” Sure, I can’t do anything for them as a student, but I could say that he really doesn’t know what my real purpose to visit there.

Although I can’t do anything for this time, I have commitment to do something in the near future and it is good to know the life of our own people. Even thousands of non-Burmese people are involving in the welfare of our people, I surprise why my friend asks me that kind of nonsense question. I wanna say that every Myanmar people (Burmese) has responsible for that.

At last, I made decision to visit first to Ranong, southern part of Thailand. I have some friends in Marist (Catholic Mission) community and now they are in that area and trying to help education and health care of our people. It is double chance for me to visit and get a huge experience from their practical fields.

In fact, Marist mission is new to that place but they have a big plan like education for children, center for migrant workers, youth activities and clinic for all Burmese people. All their programs are at the starting point, except education for children. My Pilipino friend is teaching English as volunteer in Ranongthani School for summer class. I met about 50 Burmese children in that school and I was so impressed by their willingness of learning education. Although my friend is a Pilipino, it is fun that he could speak Burmese, not very well but understandable to his students. I visited several times to that school and I even had chance to substitute the class when a Burmese teacher was not free. I was so glad to substitute the class because I could communicate directly with the children and knew more about their real feeling.

There are still some questions in my mind: Why are these children here? Why don’t they have a chance to learn education like other children in Myanmar (Burma)? Who should take responsible for all these children? And Why…..? Of course, I know that I couldn’t get the right answer now but I would say that a personal commitment of every Myanmar people (Burmese) is the most import in this situation.
